Ancestry has been published January, April, July and October since 1965. The annual surname index is in the October issue; society members are listed in the July issue. Ancestry articles are indexed in PERSI (Periodical Source Index) published by the Allen County Public Library, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. There is a link to PERSI, and to a tutorial page at Heritage Pathways on our LINKS page.
Each issue of Ancestry is divided into four sections:
SECTION I : FLORIDA AND PALM BEACH COUNTY
SECTION II : MANUSCRIPTS
SECTION III : GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY OF PALM BEACH COUNTY
SECTION IV : GENERAL GENEALOGY
SECTION I recently ran the General Index to Estates (Probate) of Palm Beach County, 1909-1969, which began in Volume 35 January 2000, and ended in Volume 45 December 2010 . Some of the previous indexes featured include Early Palm Beach County Marriage Licenses, Original land owners of the city of West Palm Beach, and the 1910 U.S. Census of Palm Beach County,
SECTION II presents an original manuscript of a family history, which typically begins with the immigrant and comes down to the present. The author does not have to be a member of our society and his or her ancestry is not limited to Florida. This gives people the opportunity to see how some of their research looks in print, and often leads to a larger work, even a book. Manuscripts submitted must be in New England Register Style format, be properly documented, and are subject to editorial review.
SECTION III contains library acquisitions, books for sale, book reviews, and a featured Surname from our vertical file. Society members are listed in the July issue.
SECTION IV offers articles of general genealogical interest. These may include new websites, or instructions on how to do family research, or where to find particular records.
Ancestry is exchanged with other genealogical and/or historical societies around the United States. It is free to members of Genealogical Society of Palm Beach County, and available by subscription to non-members for $20.00 per year.
