Databases
Transcribers of Funeral Notices (obituaries) to add obituaries to our Area Deaths database, up to six people needed. Help make our Area Deaths an even more valuable resource. A well written Obit can be more valuable than three census entries. Just compare the obits to our Area Deaths on the website and when you find a match, add the obit publication date. If there is no match, fill in the appropriate fields from the data in the obituary. We ask for a commitment of about 3 hours a week, more is certainly appreciated. Since this can now be done from home, you can divide you commitment into as many sessions as you want.

Library
- Library Volunteers - the library needs more volunteers to assist in reshelving books, providing basic assistance to patrons, making copies, and straightening books on the shelves. You don't need as degree in library science, or even know the Dewey Decimal System. Lorraine, or one of our other volunteers will train you do do what needs to be done. This is a great social opportunity as well, a chance to meet and chat with someof our other members. We need more volunteers since we should have two or three volunteers present whenever the library is open, Help us maintain our six days a week schedule by volunteering a few hours a week.
Archival Books researcher - this is a short term project. We have books in our collection that have become too fragile to continue to use. We need a volunteer to compile a list of these books; check the list on Google to see if the complete book is available for free online. Develop a system with Lorraine so we can mark these books physically and in our catalogs, noting that they are able to be downloaded from Google rather than further damaging our already deteriorated copy.
Publications
- Ancestry Indexers - Help build our 200,000+ Surname Car File by assisting others in recording each occurance of a surname in back issues of our quarterly journal. This job is done at the library, so you do get some social interaction and when you are done with your volunteering, what better place to continue your research into your family history?
Authors needed. Our quarterly publication, Ancestry, needs family histories and other genealogy related articles for publication. Our Senior Editor, Marjorie Nelson will gladly help you form a polished article you can be proud of from a rough draft. You provide the story, we’ll provide the polish!
Newsletter contributors, one or more to scan websites for genealogy news, to review our monthly meetings, write short articles, and assist Adele as needed. Generally this can be done from home and takes 2 – 3 hours a month.
